The Big Southeastern occurrence is located between Williams Creek and the creek draining Duck Lake, approximately 400 metres north-northeast of the north end of Lizard Lake.

The area is crossed by the apparently subvertical, sinistral, northerly-trending Mineral Creek fault/shear zone which isolates mostly Karmutsen Formation basaltic pillowed flows and breccias on its western side. The north- westerly trending North Cowichan reverse fault isolates mostly Duck Lake and Nitnat Formation units on its eastern side. The former unit consists of primarily basaltic pillowed and massive flows; the latter is mostly basaltic to andesitic agglomerates to tuffs and breccias. The south-central, triangular slice of land that lies between the two faults holds a complex mix of Duck Lake Formation rocks, McLaughlin Ridge Formation massive tuffites with thin beds of argillite, Mount Mark Formation limestone beds with minor argillite and chert, and Mount Hall gabbroic intrusions.

Locally, gold mineralization is associated with quartz veinlets, thin veins, and their narrow ankerite-silica alteration halos within andesite/basalts. Sulphide mineralization is mainly pyrite and arsenopyrite with rare chalcopyrite and some probable tetrahedrite-tennantite.

From 2003 through 2005, the area was explored by B. Hanslit as the Big Southeastern claim. Exploration programs included prospecting, geochemical sampling and three diamond drill holes, totalling 261.8 metres. From 2006 through 2010, Bitterroot Resources Ltd. completed exploration programs of geological mapping, geochemical sampling and 108 diamond drill holes, totalling 19,931.7 metres.

In 2006, gold mineralization was intersected in most of the holes and is summarized below.

In 2007, diamond drilling produced a total of 509 samples for assay. Of these, 281 samples contained 0.16 to 0.95 gram per tonne gold and 60 samples assayed greater than 0.95 gram per tonne gold. Assays from the mid to upper-hanging wall ranged from 0.95 to 6.72 grams per tonne gold over intervals of 1.5 metres through a vertical distance of 152 metres (Assessment Report 30212).
